A Weekend Experience

 Typhoon Ondoy.

September 25. Friday.

My group of friends and I ended our Friday night by attending theFeast Manila. It is a weekly gathering held at SM Manila, Cinema 4 --the admission is free..  We spent our Friday nights in singing praises to God, hearing talks from Bro. Obet (It's so great!) and hearing God's word through the holy mass. It starts from 7pm till 10pm. Three hours? Yes.

But if you are there, you cannot feel it. Promise! You'll enjoy

10pm. Feast Manila had ended. We had a great Friday night. It serves as our energizers because we will not be sleeping for the whole night. You read it right! Angge, Aina and I, planned not to sleep to start the video editing for our production subject.

Unfortunately, we just slept the whole night.  We decided that we need to have enough rest for we will be having an Electronic Field Production (shooting) the next day.

September 26. Saturday.

We woke up as early as 6am. We were surprised by the weather. It rained so hard. By that time, there was no cancellation of classes announced. So, we decided to go to school-in Pureza to get our props kept there.

But as we wemt out Aina's house, we were surprised because the flood outside is knee-high. Still we went our way to LRT- Legarda station. We traveled to Pureza station hoping that we may be able to get our props.

Well, unfortunately, we just wasted our money. As we arrived at Pureza station the flood was almost knee-high too. Travelling through pedicab was not advisable because the flood almost reached the seats. We just stayed there for about 30 minutes. Hoping that the rain will stop.

Then, we received text messages that the classes were suspended. So it only means that our shoot was also cancelled. In short, our plans were all messed up! We just decided to went back to Aina's house or else we will be stranded there.

At Aina's place, we just slept the whole day. We weren't able travel back home. Our parents advised us no to go out. That time, my mother texted me that the water in our place at Pinagbuhatan, Pasig was chest-high.

By 7pm, with our mobile phone's backlight, we've decided to pray all the mysteries of the rosary. We were all trapped in Aina's  place, and  for the three of us,  praying was the only thing we can do to help. After praying the rosary --the rain had stopped.

September 27. Sunday.

Angge and I woke up as early as 6 am. Both of is were excited to go home. She'll be travelling to Cavite while my way is on Pasig.

We parted ways in LRT- Leagarda Station. She rode the train while I decided to wait for a jeepney route in Pasig-Quiapo.

6:30 am. --still there was no jeep coming in that route. I've decided to wait, For me, " Patience is a virtue!"

7am. I've decided to took another route and I thought of riding LRT to Cubao station then MRT to Shaw Blvd station.

8:30. I arrived at the jeepney park in crossing. I was surprised to know that there were no jeepneys travelling to Pasig Palengke and that the farthest place they could reach is the Pasig Simbahan.

9am. I was surprised by the scenario. the vendors from Pasig Market were on the street in front of the church. The flood in the market was waist level. So I walked through the over pass connecting to the second floor of the market.

As I walked, I've seen another means of transportation that time --the improvised floating  vehicle. Some were made from styrofoam, airbed, old refrigerator, old bath tub and the biggest thing I've seen is the boat used in fishing..

Imagine that scenario. The fare ranged from 40php to 100php depending in your place.
I don't have enough money that time so I just waited for some other people to start walking.

And so, after an hour, Iarrived home.

I was shocked.

Our things were all wet. My mother told me that the water rose too fast. Some of our appliances were left in the flood like the refrigerator and washing machine.

My books were also wet.
By 2pm, we've decided to evacuate ourselves. We headed towards the office of my mother. We stayed there for a while then we've decided to stay in our house at Calamba, Laguna.

In this experience, I 've learned so many things:

  1. Express your feelings to your love ones in every single moment. You'll never know what might happened next.
  2. Don't blame others every now and then. Examine yourselves first.
  3. Take care Mother Earth. It's the only planet we can live in.
  4. Be good always. You'll never know when will be your time!
  5. Always pray to Him. Let's always thank Him and praise Him. Everything is in His hands. Let's just trust Him.
