Steering-Committee of "Asia-Europe Network for Young Journalists"

Five young journalists from Europe as well as from Asia were selected as steering-committee for "Asia-Europe Network for Young Journalists". These young professional journalists lead the project and are available for further cooperation.

Some young journalists from Asia and Europe already have had the benefit interacting and learning from each other when they attended the ASEM Youth Dialogue on "Asia-Europe Strategic Choices for Equitable Development" in the Philippines in 2007, the 6th "ASEF Journalists' Colloquium“ in The Netherlands and the 19th International Youth Forum in South Korea in 2008. Additionally, the first act of cooperation was undertaken during the “Asia-Europe Young Leaders Symposium – First Asia-Europe Young Urban Leaders Dialogue” in November 2008 in Madrid, Spain. During this meeting young European journalists and their Asian colleagues reported jointly together on www.orangelog.eu.

After these initial contacts and projects, the project-partner European Youth Press and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre decided to establish an "Asian-European network of young journalists" and signed a joined “Memorandum of Understanding“ agreeing to cooperate over the next two years in this framework. This network will build up the social networks youthmedia.eu (for Europe) and AYCN.net (for Asia) as starting points and develop the Asia-Europe dimension further by workshops and online-reporting from events in 2010. In order to advise the project partners and actively support this cooperation, both partners called for young journalists of both continents to establish a steering committee for the network. Out of almost 100 very promising applications the partners selected five Asian and five European colleagues, who have now established the steering committee and exchanged ideas for 2010/2011 cooperation already via their existing mailinglist. These members are professional journalists working for big media companies on both continents and have a strong commitment to improve Asia-Europe relations. Additionally the responsible project managers from AMIC and EYP joined the steering-committee, which had their first meeting from 12th until 15th January 2009 in Singapore:
